Marathon

(I'd like to send out a belated happy birthday to MadCity. My favorite April Fool's! And I'm sure he's never heard that before. Ever. Kind of like I've never heard the song "Mandy". Although, I no longer need to, because I heard the ultimate rendition a couple of weeks ago, thankyouverymuch. But I digress. Happy Birthday, Dude!)

Special K and I just went to our third wedding for the month of March on Saturday. Granted, one of them was ours, but still – three in one month! I suppose we’re part of this “wave”. I remember about 3 ½ - 4 years ago, a ton of my friends were getting married, and several friends and I commented that these things tend to come in waves. I guess I’m in the second wave – or at least, the second wave of the people I know. Although, I don’t think I know anyone else getting married this year – so maybe it was just a hiccup. Of course, if you look at The Knot, it’s a perpetual tidal wave. Throws your perspective off a bit.

We’ve decided to have our families and some friends who might as well be family over for Easter dinner, which also happens to be my mom’s birthday. It should be a lot of fun, and it’s good because it’s kind of forcing us to have the house looking presentable by this weekend. We’re actually making good progress, thanks to a sideboard that we got for the kitchen and assembled last night. Our kitchen looks like a real kitchen! It’s functional and it has stuff in the right places! It’s so exciting!

I have such a sad little life sometimes…

In any event, our goal is to have boxes down to a bare minimum by that time – although I’ve still got to pack up my old bedroom at my old apartment, so we don’t want to chuck ‘em all. I think we’re not going to do a lot with that stuff until our guest room (currently our “crap repository”) is cleaned out. In the meantime, I’ve been working on a menu that is almost complete…I think.

I’ve started running again and I’m re-gaining good progress after many months away, and Special K also bought his first new pair of running shoes in many years so that he can keep me company when he wishes. But also so that he can not destroy his shins when he goes to the gym, as he had been doing with his old shoes. His very, very old shoes. Shins are helpful things – we like shins. But we also like running. I think running has something to do with me fitting into the dress I wore to wedding #3. (It’s a more likely culprit than “optimism”.)

Thanks! I'm old (seriously, I'm a certified geriatric case!). But, I soldier on (albeit with lots of whining and complaining). Sounds like you are enjoying wedded bliss.

And yes, I am a fool. A fool for monkies and pirate parties! No better b-day celebration than a pirate party!

Yeah, you guys are definitely at the front (the crest?) of this wave. Remember last year when I knew 7 couples that got engaged in one month?!? And you 2 were my first of 3 weddings this year... so far!

Somehow I see a steady treatment regimen of hot baths and pain killers in my future. The shins should be in good shape but the muscles will certainly be plotting their ultimate revenge against me as payback!

You are tired of Mandy... I am deathly tired of weisenheimers who give me a box of "Little Debbie Cakes" and likewise think that they are soooooo funny.

bilge!
